In a huge setback for Tuesday's fight, Mikaela Mayer is off the card due to testing positive to COVID-19. Mikaela was the co-feature for the WBO featherweight title bout between Shakur Stevenson and Felix Caraballo.
Mikaela is an undefeated champion. Mikaela is a 3 time US National Champion, and an olympian with model looks. Her last fight was in October 2019 when she defended her title against Alejandra Zamora from Argentina. Mikaela is a force to be reckoned with in women's boxing and was a big reason why this card has so much appeal.
In her Instagram account she wrote. "I am heartbroken to report that I will no longer be fighting on Tuesday’s Top Rank card due to a positive result in my COVID-19 test yesterday."She continued. "I’m disappointed for myself, my team, my supporters and for my opponent, Helen Joseph, who worked just as hard to be here this week and put on a show for everyone."
Mayer is one among the many cases where the individual has no symptoms when they tested positive. The fact that she looked in great shape and was able to train is terrifying. She mentioned in her Instagram post that her team tested negative and that she is quarantining at an off-site location.
No replacement fight has been given by top rank as of now and most likely that won't be the case due to the proximity of the date. As of now, this is how tomorrow's card looks:
Shakur Stevenson vs. Felix CaraballoJared Anderson vs Johnnie Langston
Guido Vianello vs Don Haynesworth
Robeisy Ramirez vs Yeuri Andujar
Calvin Metcalf vs Quatavious Cash
We wish Mikaela a speedy recovery and hope to see her back in action.
