Jon Jones vs Dana White II

Las Vegas, NV | March 31, 2021, 3:18 a.m.

Jon Jones and Dana White are locking horns once more. In a series of deleted tweets, Jon Jones showed his frustration with the UFC again. A day after Nganu's destruction of Miocic, the former middleweight champion took off his gloves and went after the UFC in a series of tweets that were deleted that same day.

After the Nganu vs Miocic fight, Jones tweeted "show me the money". When a reporter brought it to Dana White, the UFC president replied "If I am Jon Jones and I'm home watching this fight I start moving to 185". Jones quickly replied "What a great way to promote the fight. Let's just s**t on Jon Jones and make him seem afraid". Jones is currently ranked at No.1 at MMA Junkie pound-for-pound rankings and a matchup between Francis seems to be the next move for Jones. But an Nganu vs Lewis fight is also gathering steam since Derrik Lewis is the other fighter who beat Nganu via decision at UFC 226. Jones' approach to the potential fight seems to be conditioned to him getting a bigger pay day.  In terms of merit, Jones deserves a bigger pay. After all, he dominated the lightweight division and a win against Nganu at heavyweight would cement his legacy. From Dana White's perspective, he's not interested in giving Jones a raise. He can claim that a fight between Nganu and Lewis, or even a trilogy of Nganu vs Miocic is more attractive than a Jones fight. That's the leverage he has over Jones.

Jones last fight was back in February 2020 when he won a decision over Reyes.  He then vacated his lightweight belt to move up to the heavyweight division.
